Bato Springs Laguna

Located less than 2 hours away from Manila, experience Probinsya life without the fear of ever encountering a dead spot. We all wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city but can’t seem to let go of our cellphones. I completely understand wanting to be closer to nature while updating your status in Facebook about it. This is the perfect destination if you want to relax but don’t want to spend a large amount of your vacation on the road or waiting for your flight (or in my case, avoid anything athletic).

We stayed at Mang Robert’s house. We were not given a street address because street addresses don’t exist in this part of Laguna. I’m used to this. My hometown doesn’t have street addresses as well. Nevertheless, being given instructions like “baba ng bus sa pangalawang 711” still crack me up. This remind me of people visiting friends where I grew up. They would say things like, “baba daw po kami sa may sampalukan.” What amazes me is the people being asked understood the weird but shockingly effective directions.
Bato Springs is developed. Normally, developing nature into some moneymaking resort offends me. However, they were able to maintain the beauty of the spring while making the place more accomodating for guests. The entrance fee is only 80Php. Rooms are available within the resort but I recommend staying at Mang Roberts house. The driver called it “Malaking Bahay”.

“Malaking Bahay” is the ideal home for nature lovers. The “silong” of the house has a receiving area, bar, pool table, dining table, toilet and dirty kitchen. Like the usual “silong”, there are no walls. It’s the perfect place for overnight kwentuhan while bundled in blankets. Its 2nd floor serves as the bedroom. The place is spacious and can accomodate up to 20 people. Its even possible to put up your own tents on their backyard if the number of beds, mattresses and couches won’t suffice.

Reminder, it’s cold at night. Bring blankets and jackets. If it gets hot, electric fans are available (but I doubt you’ll need it.)

The pictures I took didn’t do justice. Tsk tsk.
